See Who Supports and Who Opposes Restoring Direct Elections

Below are two lists of public officials, party officials, civic leaders, grassroots leaders, activists, and candidates who have communicated either their support or their opposition to giving back to all Republican voters the right to directly elect their representatives to the Illinois Republican Party’s state central committee, our state party’s senior governing board.

A one-page flyer with a brief summary of this past due reform is HERE.

Please note regarding the “OPPOSES” list that we are including the small number of people who definitively said “NO,” they don’t think you deserve to get your vote back, together along with the people who still refuse to give a straight “yes-or-no” answer on this crucial matter, even in most cases after repeated requests over months. It is our position that both types of opponents are equally destructive to Republican interests and we are treating them the same. When it comes to the right to vote there can be no “staying on the fence.”

All we ask is that the Resolution of the 2024 Illinois State Convention Concerning Restoring the Direct Election of State Central Committeepersons by the Vote of Republican Primary Voters receive a fair up-or-down vote on the convention floor by ALL delegates at the upcoming Illinois Republican State Convention in downstate Collinsville on May 24 & 25.

If you would like to add your name in support or opposition, just contact Doug Ibendahl at (312) 648-0061 (call or text) or at restoredirectelections@mail.com.

One final note, if anyone tells us we have it wrong and they are not on the correct list, we will of course immediately correct the error with our apologies. Similarly, if someone on the “OPPOSES” list decides to get onboard and stand-up for Republican voters, we will welcome & celebrate their addition to the “SUPPORTS” list. The one exception is Dennis Hastert. If he contacts us and says he’s now in favor of restoring direct elections and now welcomes the party transparency & accountability the reform will bring, we’ll remove his name from the “OPPOSES” list. But we’re never going to include his name on a list with the decent people who are serious about finally righting an old wrong and making the Illinois Republican Party relevant again.
